Open letter to IIUM rector — 2006/07 Alumnus

SEPT 26 — We, the 2006/07 alumnus of the IIUM would like to express our grave concern on the recent development which undertook behind the backyard of the Garden of Knowledge and Virtue.
We wish to reiterate here that;
1. The philosophy of the University was inspired by the five verses revealed to the Prophet Muhammad s.a.w., namely Surah Al-Alaq, Verses 1-5, "Read! In the name of the thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created. Created man, out of a leech-like clot. Read! And thy Lord is Most Bountiful. He Who taught (the use of) the Pen. Taught man that which he knew not."; and
2. IIUM aims to become a leading international centre of educational excellence which seeks to restore the dynamic and progressive role of the Muslim Ummah in all branches of knowledge and intellectual discourse.
We wish to recall our alma mater days, during which;
1. We solemnly promise during the oath taking ceremony (bai'ah) in front of the Senate Members of the IIUM to uphold the philosophy, vision and mission of the IIUM, namely the Integration, Islamisation, Internationalisation, and Comprehensive Excellence (the "IIICE");
2. We began our journey of a thousand miles with IIUM, in a multicultural atmosphere, with the dream to promote world peace while adhering to the key principles of Islamic teachings and values; and
3. We appreciate the trust and guidance bestowed by the leaderships of the University, Kullilyyah and Mahallah for the young pupils to interact and work with each other, with the liberty to forge bonds of ukhuwwah and intellectual discourses through various curricular and co-curricular activities.
We thus sincerely urge the Senate and Management of IIUM;
1. To uphold the Philosophy, Vision And Mission of the IIUM with full integrity and professionalism, without fear and favour;
2. To give due respect to the capacity and maturity of the pupils of the IIUM in shaping their own course of action unto the landscape of the Garden Of Knowledge And Virtue, as well as their future;
3. To give liberty for students to elect their council members in a brotherly and professional manner; and
4. To restore the trust within the family members of IIUM, as well as to restore the respect within the community of this distinguished alma mater in her path towards Integration, Islamisation, Internationalisation, and Comprehensive Excellence.
Last but not least, together, we make the world a better place; forever, we expand the culture of Iqra'; IIUM, is to realise the meaning of Rahmatan lil 'Alamin.
Jointly-signed by Brother Ubaidillah Abdullah, Brother Termizi Din, Brother Syahir Sulaiman, 2006/07 Alumnus of the Garden of Knowledge and Virtue.
